This whimsical handmade tassel is intricately constructed from a variety of materials, including translucent glass beads, faux fur, fine ribbon and quality passementerie. These fun conversation pieces can be used as drapery tiebacks, on the front of a grand armoire, or simply on a door handle as we've shown here.

Most small apartments have only one small bathroom. Our approach? Reduce the contrast and make a strong statement at the same time, treating the room as both an ensuite to the bedroom–the same hardwood floor was installed throughout and the moulding used to frame the mirror is also used on the upholstered headboard in the bedroom–and a guest powder room–the medicine cabinet was replaced with a piece of art for a more formal appearance–personal items are now easily accessible below.

Under-counter cupboard knobs were removed and spring latches were installed for a cleaner more contemporary look and the vanity was painted a deep olive brown to match the walls. The simple but dynamic lines of the gooseneck faucet and three-light wall sconce, both in a satin nickle finish, add both warmth and modern flare. The reduced depth of the new one-piece toilet works especially well in a small bathroom.

Taking the new beveled wall mirror right up to the ceiling helps deal with some awkward negative spaces often found in some apartments where nothing seems to be lined up. Mounting the light fixture directly onto the mirror and using a full wall of shimmering quilted silk to conceal the tub area also add a sense of luxury and drama.

A variety of silver metals used throughout the space–stainless steel, satin nickel and pewter–blend seamlessly when juxtaposed with one another. Keeping all of the bathroom accessories, lighting and fixtures in the same general family as we've done here, without being too "matchy", allows you to be more creative and you'll be happier with the end result. The subtle contrasts in the details, draw more attention to the large painting as the room's focal point.
